Budgeting

Setting a budget

Before you begin your apartment search, take time to determine how much you can realistically afford to spend on rent, utilities, and other housing-related expenses. Be sure to factor in not only monthly rent, but also upfront costs like security deposits and application fees, along with ongoing expenses like electricity, internet, and transportation.

Prioritize your must-have features and be mindful of trade-offs—some apartments may offer great amenities but stretch your budget, while others may be more affordable but less updated. A clear budget helps you make smart, confident decisions as you search.
